The Giro d'Italia is one of cycling's Grand Tour races, and its 99th edition will start in Apeldoorn on May 6.
Although it is held generally in Italy, it also occasionally passes through nearby countries. In this edition, two stages will take place in the Netherlands, both between Nijmegen and Arnhem. It will pass through France as well.
This race has been organised annually since the first edition back in 1909, apart from in the period over the two world wars. Because of its increasing popularity, riders from all over the world take part in this competition.
From the very beginning Italian riders have been predominant. Until May 29, the riders will face 21 stages and cover 3383 gruelling kilometres.
